China’s Microblogging Celebs Blow Past Western Stars 5:05 AM 3/30/2011 by Jonathan Landreth

Look out Lady Gaga, here come Zhao Wei and Little S.

BEIJING – A handful of Chinese celebrity micro bloggers now have more online followers than some of the most-followed stars in the West, data from social networking sites Twitter and its Chinese clone, Weibo, shows.
Chinese actress and pop singer Vicky Zhao Wei, the star of the 2009 box office hit Mulan, added more than 116,000 followers in the week ended Tuesday to swell her Weibo fan base to 5.81 million people and help her blow past American singer Taylor Swift, whose Twitter followers now number 5.72 million.

The 5.5 million Weibo users following Kevin Tsai -- the openly gay host of Taiwan’s Golden Horse Awards, the equivalent of the Oscars for Chinese-language films -- edged past the 5.4 million Twitterers now following American talk show host Oprah Winfrey.

At the end of 2010, the overall number of Chinese people going online was 450 million, a group almost 50 percent larger than the entire population of the United States, now 307 million strong.

In January, China's No. 1 most popular Weibo user, actress Yao Chen, had 4.9 million followers. As of this week, Yao, who starred in the 2010 hit If You Are the One 2, broke the 7 million fan mark catching her up quickly to the number of Twitterers following U.S. President Barack Obama (7.13 million) and pop sensation Britney Spears (7.21 million).

As of September 2010, Twitter had 175 million registered users. Nasdaq-listed Sina reports that Weibo had more than 80 million registered users in January 2011.

Still out of the reach of even actress Yao atop the list of Twitterati are teen idols Lady Gaga, with 8.98 million Twitter followers, and Justin Bieber, with 8.35 million.

Right behind Yao on Weibo is Taiwan actress and singer Dee Hsu. Under her nickname Xiao S, or Little S, Hsu ranks No. 2 on the Weibo most-popular list with 6.18 million followers. Hsu is a co-host with Kevin Tsai of the popular Chung T’ien Television comedy talk show Here’s Kangxi.

A successful Stocks and Commodities Trader

Successful trading comes from experience and experience comes from only after spending money and time in the Markets. A trader is considered only if he trades and makes money in bull or bear markets.
Proper analysis and strict financial discipline are the two important factors that are very crucial for a trader to be successful. Successful Traders have developed a good trading system after prolonged testing of the trading system.
A trading system may be of any kind but over a period, it should show good results, irrespective of any Market. Until you design a trading system, try experimenting with your system till you are satisfied with the system. This is not going to be a easy process.
Once you have found a successful trading system that works for you, you need to test the system for number of times for Profits and losses before you use it in real time.
A trader you trades the markets without proper trading system is destined to lose. So, designing a trading system is the half way mark for a successful trading. The next part is financial discipline.
Financial discipline is nothing but executing your trades based only on your system with proper entry and exit levels. The loss from any trade should be less and the profit from the trade should be more.
Successful mastering of developing a trading system and following it with discipline would surely make a successful Trader.

No Super power is going to rule the world forever

We all know the might of British Empire in the 17th,18th, 19th , and 20th Century. There was a saying ‘ The sun never sets in British Empire’ which means almost all the parts of the world were ruled by the British. Such was the mighty of British Empire. They brought most of the world under their rule spanning from America to Asia to Africa. They were the dominant powers in the world affairs at that time.
But they were outclassed by USA and USSR after the world wars. USA and USSR became the superpowers of the World. World politics revolved around them. But after the disintegration of USSR in the 1990s, USA remained the sole super power of the world.
Before the 15 Century, the world was under the control of Muslim rulers. The Arabian and Persian Muslim rulers conquered most part of the world except Americas since it is too far away from their countries and also sea expedition is not possible for far off continent. Sulaimansait even expanded his kingdom to Spain in Europe. Muslim rulers conquered most of the Asia except the Mongolia. They conquered African continent. That is why most of the North Africa was Muslim populated Countries. But their might and importance vanished since the emergence of British Empire.
Before 10th Century, the world is dominated by the rulers from the Indian subcontinent and Mongolians. Chenqish Khan one of the Mongols ruler had made a expedition to conquer the world. But their Importance and power vanished by the arrival of Muslims rulers from Arabia.
No power center will rule the world forever. The super power status of USA would be challenged one day by some other country. But the rotation will  continue forever.

Aftermath of Japan’s Natural disaster in world Economy

Friday, March 18, 2011

Once again, Nature has demonstrated its vast devastating power on Earth and also it has been once again proved the instability of Human lives in this world. Even though, natural disaster are not new for the Japanese, the present devastation is caused by Earth Quake, Tsunami, and Atomic radiation. Japanese might not have imagined such a three frontal attack on them.

The only consoling thing is that only the coastal areas are affected by this devastation. The main land is not affected by Tsunami. This seems, that Japan will soon recover from this calamity. The resilience and discipline shown by these people shown by this people is astonishing . We have seen utter chaos in the streets of many Asian or European Or American countries whenever a disaster struck. But the Japanese kept their cool and they have moved on.

It is learnt the Tsunami might cost a lot for the insurers. So, it is bad time for Japanese Insurance companies. Japan is an Automobile Major. It may affect the production of these companies. Japan may need lot of money to be put into their economy. So this will surely dampen the export import balance of that country.  Already crude oil saw a mild sell off on the back of Japanese natural disaster fearing a lack of demand on crude.

Commodity prices may move on the back of fresh demand for reconstructing these regions. So metal prices may go up in the near future. The economic impact of this disaster most likely to affect Japan only. It is unlikely to impact other economies.

WRAPUP 5-Japan hopes to restore power at two crippled reactors Friday

Work not progressing as fast as hoped
* Japan nuclear agency says aware of "Chernobyl solution"
* G7 agrees rare concerted intervention to restrain yen rise
* U.S. nuclear official says reactor cooling could take weeks (Adds Chernobyl comments, details)
By Kiyoshi Takenaka and Terril Jones
TOKYO, March 18 (Reuters) - Japanese engineers raced to restore a power cable to a quake-ravaged nuclear power plant on Friday in the hope of restarting pumps needed to pour cold water on overheating fuel rods and avert a catastrophic release of radiation.
Officials said they hoped to fix a cable from the grid to at least two of the six reactors on Friday, but that work would stop in the morning to allow helicopters and fire trucks to resume pouring water on the Fukushima Daiichi plant, about 240 km (150 miles) north of Tokyo.
Even if the engineers manage to connect the power, it is not clear the pumps will work as they may have been damaged in the earthquake or subsequent explosions and there are real fears of the electricity shorting and causing another explosion.
"Preparatory work has so far not progressed as fast as we had hoped," an official of plant operator Tokyo Electric Power Co (TEPCO) told a news briefing, adding that engineers had to be constantly checked for radiation levels.
Washington and other foreign capitals have expressed growing alarm about radiation leaking from the plant, severely damaged by a magnitude 9.0 earthquake and tsunami a week ago that triggered a series of destructive explosions and compromised the nuclear reactors and spent fuel storage tanks.
Worst case scenarios would involve millions of people in Japan threatened by exposure to radioactive material, but prevailing winds are likely to carry any contaminated smoke or steam away from the densely populated Tokyo area to dissipate over the Pacific ocean.
Nuclear agency spokesman Hidehiko Nishiyama said the priority was to get water into the spent fuel pools. He was unsure how effective the helicopters had been inn cooling the reactors.
"As to what we do beyond that, we have to reduce the heat somehow and may use seawater," he told a news conference. "We need to get the reactors back online as soon as possible and that's why we're trying to restore power to them."
Asked about the "Chernobyl solution" of burying the reactors in sand and concrete, he said: "That solution is in the back of our minds, but we are focused on cooling the reactors down."
Japan's nuclear disaster is the world's worst since the 1986 Chernobyl disaster in Ukraine.

social media strategy

Companies large and small are rushing to understand and get involved in social media. But most of the agencies and consultants who are being paid to establish social media campaigns for corporations are afraid to tell their clients three things they don’t want to hear.

1. Everyone Must Work Together

In most big companies, IT, digital, marketing and sales not only don’t work together, they compete with each other. Until they start collaborating as a team, you will not succeed in social media.
For example, I recently handled social media advertising for a major retail chain’s holiday microsite. The promotion was conceived by the digital department and involved augmented reality. But the IT department refused to allow a link from the homepage to the microsite because the microsite’s design was done by an external agency.
Further, the marketing department refused to allow a dedicated e-mail to go out to the company’s mailing list, and when placed in the company’s normal promotional e-mail, the link to the microsite was lost in a sea of weekly specials.
These hurdles made it very hard to drive traffic to the microsite.
But more than that, this lack of internal collaboration and contact makes any kind of social media involvement virtually impossible.
A company that hasn’t learned to listen to its own employees, and encourage them to collaborate internally, is not likely to succeed in integrating social media tools into its marketing mix, no matter what agency or consultant they hire.

2. Top Management Must Be On Board

managers imageIf the direction doesn’t come from the very top, managers, who have myriad reasons to fear change, will hang on to the status quo.

Despite the best intentions of agencies and consultants, social media integration is bound to meet huge resistance until top management says it’s OK to spend time and money to integrate it into the company’s marketing and culture.

Example: The marketing team of an international manufacturer of electronics wanted to know how the company could begin to use social media and we discussed the many possibilities.

Listening and responding to what customers are saying about the brand in social media can supply good intelligence and give the company a chance to interact with customers.

“Our management doesn’t want to listen to customers,” the PR director said. “They want to talk to them.”

However, that doesn’t work anymore. The status quo is dead. Any company that isn’t willing to listen to customers and be nimble and quick enough to respond, and, when necessary, change, will soon be unable to compete with smart, tech-savvy companies that can turn on a dime.

Willingness to change is the new bottom line for every business today. But top management has to buy in before change can begin.

3. Don’t Expect Overnight Success

point a to bSure there are videos that go viral, contests that attract a lot of buzz, and Facebook pages that get a lot of fans. But what comes after those efforts?

After the tools change (and they surely will) how will social media fit into the company’s overall strategy and help it reach long-term goals?

Example: Smart companies look at the long-term. The Fiskateers, now in its sixth year, is the brainchild of digital agency Brains on Fire, for their client Fiskars.

With the scissors brand losing market share to foreign knock-offs, the company enlisted several actual crafters to blog, attend events, and represent the brand to customers as part of a new community strategy.

“If you empower your customers to become your evangelists, you’d better be prepared to continue it,” says Brains on Fire’s Geno Church. “It’s permanent when you engage in this type of marketing.”

Once you have created the community, listen to it. Fiskars made several changes to its products based on what it discovered through its Fiskateers community. Doing so helped build customer trust and loyalty.
Where Should Your Company Start?

Realizing that employing social media in the marketing mix is a long-term commitment to change, the best way to start is to pick manageable, measurable goals.

Pick a small number of social media goals for the coming year. Some possibilities:

- Turn the company newsletter into an internal blog and give all employees the ability to contribute
- Establish a social media policy for employee participation in social media on company time and beyond
- Let employees vote on the best ideas suggested by other employees
- Resolve to respond to customer service issues within three hours, via social media

Don’t try to do all of these things at once. Pick the ones that are most likely to be possible for your company to start and sustain.

Twitter's UberTwitter Takedown: It's Just Business

Twitter's UberTwitter Takedown: It's Just Business
Twitter's UberTwitter sanction marks a troubling turning point in the social network's interaction with partners.
Lance Ulanoff By Lance Ulanoff

There is a certain irony in the fact that Twitter is now aggressively going after third-party sites and services that once helped it spread its name, message, and capabilities virally. What was once a beautiful, symbiotic relationship that appeared to raise the Twitter water level and float all Tweet-powered boats, is now a swirling mass of destruction, with Twitter at the vortex, seemingly eating its own offspring. Today, Twitter suspended UberTwitter and Twidroyd for "violating the company's API policies," and while much of the Twitter community expressed shock, I'm just waiting to see what else the whirlpool sweeps into its path.

I'm not shocked. In fact, this is pretty much what I predicted. Twitter is now doing whatever it can to shut down third-party and competing apps that tend to drag people away from Twitter's desktop and mobile clients. I had assumed that they would continue to do most of this quietly through technology (by tweaking the API). Have you noticed how poorly TweetDeck works on the iPad? The Twitter app, of course, works fine.

Turns out, though, there are other arrows in the Twitter's quiver. One of them is so obvious that I'm surprised I hadn't thought of it before. Twitter can bring out the lawyers.

According to a TechCrunch report, UberMedia's Bill Gross (UberMedia owns UberTwitter and TweetDeck), one of UberTwitter's offenses was its trademark-infringing name. Of course! This is the Apple strategy for brand-management control, and it is smart and extremely effective. In Apple's case, as soon as the iPod took off in the early part of this century, other companies started incorporating "iPod" into their names to try and drive interest to their iPod-related products. Apple quietly went around and reminded folks that while they were flattered, you can't simply use a trademarked name without permission. Go today and try to find something with the "iPod" name in it that isn't owned or explicitly sanctioned by Apple.

So Twitter is being smart, but that new laser-like focus on good business sure does sting. UberTwitter actually has to change its name to UberSocial. Not a big deal, right? Unless you consider that many of Twitter's third party apps got noticed by, well, using the Twitter name.

There are numerous sites and services that use part or all of the Twitter name, including Twittercal, Twittermail and TwitterCounter. I would suggest these and other sites cook up 15 different new names a piece, throw them all in a hat and then start the new name selection process.

What is to stop Twitter from going after services that use part of the company's name? Does anyone think TwitPic is safe? What about TwitVid? There are also tons of services that use "Tweet" in their name. Twitter didn't invent the word, but it could try and claim ownership when it's used to describe part of the Twitter service.

None of this makes Twitter evil. It's just a cool social platform trying to become a profitable business. CEO Dick Costello has yet to unveil his master plan for Twitter financial viability, but we are watching Twitter dip its toe in the water with sponsored Tweets that no one clicks on. Clearly, it needs to do much more. However, Costello can't afford to focus solely on the bottom line. He has to make Twitter the center of all Twitter activity and that means going after third-party eyeball leeches in whatever way he deems necessary.

UberMedia is cleaning up its act, but I doubt it'll be enough to fully protect it from Twitter's efforts to scour the world of Twitter third-party apps. In the end Twitter's vortex will continue to spin, sucking in more and more good services until it's the sole source of Tweet delivery and Twitter-centric features. This could help solidify Twitter's position in the social landscape, or it could completely alienate the users who know and love it today. What do you think will happen? Is Twitter's newly aggressive business strategy a turnoff?
